Have Letters or Shapes Cut out To reveal an Image below

A couple of videos showing ways to do this thing where the image below shows through shapes cut into another shape. So this could text or whatever and there is a shape which masks the image underneath.

You can do it with boolean tools to subtract the shapes from the rectangle or create a compound object first with the rectangle and the text or other shapes. With the compound method you get more options to size and position the text part of this. Watch the first of this pair of tutorials
